Music Education

The music education program at SFA is nationally known for excellence. It is also recognized as one of the most comprehensive training programs available anywhere.

The undergraduate programs meet all state and local requirements for certification as a teacher of music. Special tracks are provided for the instrumental, choral/keyboard, and elementary teacher. Certificates are available for All-level (K - 12th grade).Dr. Mark Turner in the Classroom

At the graduate level, more in-depth training is offered for the instrumental, choral, and elementary teacher. Training in such areas as Orff and Kodaly for the elementary teacher, pedagogy and literature for the choral teacher, or instrumental repair and double reed making for the instrumentalist is offered.

Specialized workshops are offered throughout the year in all areas of music education, providing advanced academic training credit approved by the Texas Education Agency. Clinicians and instructors for these workshops include the SFA faculty as well as other internationally known authorities in their fields.
