Music Education
Commercial Sites

Danman's Music Library - Teachers can visit this site to teach their students to learn music online with video, sound and notation. The only downside is that there is a charge to use the site of $10 per month. The site offers video lesson plans, printed music lesson plans, a music library (with over 25,000 songs), as well as interactive players and music store.
Houghton Mifflin K-8 Education Place - This website offers resources for elementary-school teachers, parents, and students. Includes a searchable activity database, educational games, professional development, and textbook support.
Kindermusik - A site for parents of children from newborn to 7 years who are interested in an alternative way of learning for their child. "Kindermusik" is an early childhood music and movement program based on the beliefs that every child is musical, every parent is the child's most important teacher, and the home is the most important place for learning to take root and grow. This site offers different sections for children, teachers, and parents. There is a curriculum that has lessons for each stage of the child's development.
Land of Music - This site is intended for K-6 graders, teachers, and parents. The layout is appealing to children and easy to navigate. There are characters such as "Helen Half Note" and "Quincy Quarter Note" that appeal to children. There are songs to download and you can ask questions. There is a page for parents and teachers. There is also a message board and a page for teacher comments. Links to pages such as "Texas Music Educators Association" and "American Music Conference" are also included.
Music for Little Folks - This website is geared towards music and movement for preschool and early elementary children. The curriculum is designed specifically for day care providers, teachers and parents working with infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Music Notes "Music You Can Read" - A music curriculum developed by elementary music teachers for teaching all children how to read music.
Music Teacher's Resource Site - Useful site for music teachers. Includes equipment and instrument reviews, arrangements and classroom projects to try with your classes, as well as a subscription section providing teaching materials.
Musical Expressions - A site to order classical music for kids. It explains the Mozart effect on children and offers the latest research pertaining to classical music's effect on young children.
National Network for Child Care - This website is directed to elementary music teachers. It gives information on how to incorporate music and rhythm into a daily classroom curriculum. It is organized very neat with subjects such as how to make instruments, guidelines on how to teach kids to play instruments and the use of movement. It recently been updated and is organized by headings and categories.
Scholastic - This site offers information for teachers, parents, and children. Each group has their own section with searchable links and information directed specifically for them. There is extensive information on teaching materials, lesion plans and books for teachers, parents and children. This site is not dedicated to only music, but there is a search function that returned 560 matches for music topics. This is clearly one of the most useful sites for everyone.
Twin Sisters Productions, Inc. - Basically an online shopping center for music educational materials for children. Although the site does not specifically deal with music for children, it has a very good link page to other sites that offer quality information. The links page is divided into nine different categories ranging from teacher resources to home schooling activities. Each page listed on the links page has it's own summary of the site as well as the address and logo. This would be a good place for teachers to look for resources in all aspects of teaching including music.
Rainbow Frog Productions - Good layout. Easy to follow homepage much like Songs for Success page. Offers no teaching instruction, but does offer large selection of music for young children. Sample tunes are provided. No links are included, but he does have a mailing list.
