SFA Collegiate Chapter of MTNA
Piano students who are interested and/or active in
the Piano Pedagogy program are eligible to become members of the SFA Collegiate
Chapter of MTNA (Music Teachers
National Association). This group elects officers, holds meetings,
and provides many services for the keyboard area, Music
Preparatory Division and the local Nacogdoches MTA association.
Some of the benefits:

Develop leadership and organizational skills

Become involved in service projects

Discuss various aspects of teaching

Take part in Teaching Demonstrations on state and national levels

The national Collegiate Chapter
of the Year Award (1999-2000) was presented to Stephen F. Austin
State University's collegiate chapter at the Minneapolis, Minnesota
MTNA National Convention. The award included a plaque and cash award
of $500!
Among the chapter's accomplishments ---

attended San Antonio TMTA State convention
-
taught Keyboard Orchestra and Piano History courses for a summer
SFA Music Preparatory Division piano camp
-
attended World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Fort Worth
-
gave a presentation to local Nagocdoches MTA chapter
on World Piano Pedagogy Conference impressions and the work they
were doing as "Prep" teachers
-
co-sponsored (with the local association) the Kenneth Thompson
Piano Workshop on the SFA campus
-
gave a surprise reception after Dr. Parr's solo piano recital
-
helped plan and organize a silent auction in conjunction
with the SFA Music Preparatory Division's fundraiser "The Musical Time Machine
- a journey through musical history" which brought in over $4,000
in children's scholarship funds
-
traveled to Kilgore to attend a workshop given by Maurice Hinson
-
sponsored a Halloween Monster piano recital with their students
performing in costume
