Background
SCOTT LaGRAFF is a frequent performer in operatic, concert and recital settings. While a member of the Tri-Cities Opera Resident Artist Training Program in Binghamton, New York, he sang the title roles in Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro, The Villains in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and Capulet in Roméo et Juliette, among others. He has also appeared with the Syracuse, Tulsa, Pensacola, East Texas, and Westchester Hudson opera companies.
A selected list of his concert engagements includes performances of the Fauré Requiem and Handel’s Messiah with the Syracuse Symphony, the Dvořak Te Deum with the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Mozart Mass in C Minor with the Canterbury Choral Society in Oklahoma City, the Bruckner Te Deum at Carnegie Hall with MidAmerica Productions, and solo appearances with the Ocean City Pops, the Binghamton Pops, and the Syracuse Oratorio Society.
An advocate of contemporary American song, he recently gave the first performances of Lee Hoiby’s Chants d’Exil and “Private First Class Jesse Givens (solo arrangement).” Furthermore, he has given lecture recitals on Hoiby’s songs at Stephen F. Austin State University, the College Music Society National Conference and the National Association of Teachers of Singing Texoma Regional Conference.
The Athens, Ohio, native received the Bachelor of Music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, the Master of Music degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Louisiana State University. Prior to joining the faculty at Stephen F. Austin, he held teaching positions at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
