Background
KIRSTEN NELSON joined the SFA faculty in the fall of 1997. She received
her Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon from West Texas State University,
and her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in bassoon
and music theory from the University of Georgia. Her bassoon instructors
have included Bruce Hammel, Tina Carpenter, and William Davis.
Dr. Nelson is the principal bassoonist with the Orchestra
of the Pines. While in Georgia, she performed with the Macon
Symphony Orchestra, the Augusta
Symphony Orchestra, and the Greenville
(SC) Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Nelson has also performed on concerts
at International Double Reed
Society Conferences and the National Association of Collegiate
Wind and Percussion Instructors Symposium.
