Dr. John W. Goodall

Background
DR. JOHN W. GOODALL came to Stephen F. Austin State University in 1980. He earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts (Oboe Performance) degree at the University of North Texas, the Master of Music (Oboe Performance) degree at Kent State, and the Bachelor of Music (Music Education) degree at East Carolina University. He has studied oboe with Joseph Robinson (principal oboe with the New York Philharmonic), John Mack (former principal oboe with the Cleveland Orchestra), and others. Dr. Goodall is a founding member of the Stone Fort Wind Quintet at SFASU and is the principal oboe with the Orchestra of the Pines. He has performed with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the Longview Symphony Orchestra, and other major performing groups in the area.

He serves as Artistic Director of the Chamber Music in the Pines Festival. He is in demand as a soloist and clinician and has performed in major venues throughout the United States and Europe. Most recently performing at the annual Conference of the International Double Reed Society in Austin, June 2005. Solo and small ensemble performance venues include, the College Band Directors National Association Convention, the Texas Music Teachers Association Convention, and The Monastery at Orvelte - The Netherlands. Goodall presented, with the Orchestra of the Pines, The Flower Clock by Jean Français for the dedication of The Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building, and was featured in performances of Samuel Barber's Canzonetta with the orchestra. Workshop and seminar topics presented at multiple educational conferences and meetings include "Teaming of MIDI and Elementary/Secondary Education," "Introduction to Finale," "Fundamental Guidelines for Oboe Students," and "Reed Making."
