Background
DEBORAH DALTON,
mezzo-soprano and San Antonio, Texas native, holds degrees in vocal
performance from Trinity University, the Cleveland Institute of Music
and the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Dalton joined the voice
faculty of Stephen F. Austin State University in 1991 where she teaches
voice and lyric diction.
She is also a stage director for SFA
Summer Opera. Directing credits include The Marriage of
Figaro (Mozart), Gianni Schicchi (Puccini), and The
Magic Flute (Mozart). In addition, she continues to maintain
a busy performance schedule.
Dr. Dalton's performances include solo appearances
with the San Antonio Symphony,
San Antonio Symphony POPS, Corpus Christi Symphony, Victoria
Symphony, and Laredo
Philharmonic as well as the San Antonio Festival, Texas
Bach Choir, San
Antonio Choral Society, Texas All-State Choir, Victoria
Bach Festival, and Cleveland Opera Theater (Cleveland, Ohio).
She has performed such operatic roles as Madame Flora in The
Medium (Menotti), Jezibaba in Rusalka (Dvorak), Dorabella
in Così fan tutte (Mozart), Prince Orlofski in Die
Fledermaus (Strauss) and the Old Prioress in Dialogues of
the Carmelites (Poulenc). Her oratorio repertoire of over forty
roles includes the alto solos in Requiem (Mozart, Verdi), Missa
Solemnis (Beethoven), Alto Rhapsodie (Brahms), Christmas
Oratorio (Bach, Saint-Saëns), St. Matthew Passion (Bach)
and Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini). She also enjoys performing
in musical comedy.
