Background
CHRISTINA GUENTHER, Assistant Professor of Music, Artist Teacher of Flute, joined the faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University in Fall 2005, performs with the Stone Fort Wind Quintet, and serves as principal flutist of the Orchestra of the Pines. Guenther has appeared as soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician throughout the United States, as well as in Central and South America. She performs actively in the greater East Texas area, and has played with the Shreveport (LA), Marshall (TX), Longview (TX), and Tallahassee (FL) Symphony Orchestras. Her performances at festivals include the Florida Flute Association Flute Fair, the Florida State University Flute Festival, the Flute Society Mid-South Festival, the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference, and the Flute Society of Kentucky Flute Festival as winner of the Young Artist Competition.

Guenther held a teaching assistantship for five years at Florida State University, where she was awarded an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 2002. She was Woodwind Director of the Tallahassee Symphony Youth Orchestra (2001-2002), and in 2004, she co-founded the Austin Summer Flute Camp (TX).

Guenther has served as a high school flute clinician in Florida and Texas, and she held a guest-artist residency at Kennesaw State University with her flute and percussion duo, The Guenther-Davis Duo, with which she performs actively. Her doctoral treatise Laurence Sherr: Chamber Music for Flute included the commission of Duo Concertante for flute and percussion, which she premiered with Dan Davis in 2003. Guenther recorded numerous CDs with Rutgers University and FSU ensembles, and is published in Flute Talk magazine. She studied with Eva Amsler, Stephanie Jutt, Charles DeLaney, Bart Feller, and Laura Carnibucci.
