The Cole Performing Arts Series is specifically designed to highlight faculty artists from the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University and significant guest performers, with intimate solo and chamber performances in the acoustically exquisite setting of Cole Concert Hall.

The School of Music gratefully acknowledges the support of Ed and Gwen Cole, the Wedgeworth-Wright Endowment for the Arts and the Kennedy Endowment Fund for helping make the performing arts series possible.

  • September 16: Mariana Gariazzo, guest flute recital Event Type:

    Flutist Dr. Mariana Gariazzo teaches at Texas A&M University. A recipient of several awards, her research focuses on new music by Latin American composers. She specializes in low flutes.

  • September 18: Pi Kappa Lambda faculty recital (scholarship fundraiser) Event Type:

  • September 25: Jeff Loeffert and Jonathan Nichol, guest saxophone recital Event Type:

    Thu., Sep. 25, 7:30 p.m.
    Cole Concert Hall

    Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert, professor of saxophone at Oklahoma State University, and Dr. Johnathan Nichol, professor of saxophone at the University of Oklahoma, will present an evening of duos for saxophone.

  • September 30: Alazan Trio Event Type:

    The Alazan Trio performs American piano trios. This concert features Stanley Silverman's “Reveille” with SFA voice faculty member Dr. Jamie Dahman, tenor.

  • October 1: “Baroque to Jazz,” Christina Guenther, faculty flute recital Event Type:

    Wed., Oct. 1, 7:30 p.m.
    Cole Concert Hall

    Joining Dr. Christina Guenther, flute, will be pianist Dr. Geneva Fung, percussionist Dr. Brad Meyer, and bassist Dr. J.D. Salas in a fun evening of music from baroque to jazz.

  • October 3: Richard Wangler, guest bass trombone recital Event Type:

    Fri., Oct. 3, 1 p.m.
    Music Recital Hall

    Richard Wangler, bass trombonist and doctoral candidate from Louisiana State University, will perform a recital including works from Koetsier, Penderecki and Frank.

  • October 3: Catharine Lysinger, guest piano recital Event Type:

    Fri., Oct. 3, 7:30 p.m.
    Cole Concert Hall

    Dr. Catharine Lysinger will present a solo recital of piano works. She is a senior lecturer of piano and piano pedagogy and the artistic director of the Music Preparatory Department at Southern Methodist Univesrity in Dallas.

  • October 4: Scott LaGraff and TiWei Chen, joint recital Event Type:

    Soprano Dr. TiWei Chen from the Hong Kong Institute of Education joins baritone Dr. Scott LaGraff, mezzo soprano Kimberly LaGraff, and pianist Dr. Geneva Fung for a concert of art songs and operatic ensembles.

  • October 5: Jun Qian, guest clarinet recital Event Type:

    Dr. Jun Qian is assistant professor of clarinet at Baylor University, and he will be performing with Baylor piano professor Kae Hosoda-Ayer.

  • October 10: Eka Gogichashvili, guest violin recital (with Kae Hosoda-Ayer) Event Type:

    Dr. Eka Gogichashvili, associate professor of violin at Baylor University, will present a violin and piano recital with her colleague Dr. Kae Hosoda-Ayer, director of collaborative piano studies.

    Dr. J.D. Salas, tuba-euphonium artist in residence, will present a solo recital. The recital will feature two world premiere commissions for tuba & percussion and tuba & multi-track.

    This recital will feature the Lieder of Richard Strauss as performed by SFA voice faculty in collaboration with pianist Dr. Ron Petti.

  • November 16: Susetta Dunn Rocket, guest oboe recital Event Type:

    Susetta Dunn Rockett will perform a variety of charming works for oboe. She will be joined by SFA faculty bassoonist Staci Spring. Rockett is an active freelancer and college instructor in Abilene, Texas.

  • December 11–12: “Amahl and the Night Visitors” Event Type:

    All ages will delight in this classic Christmas opera about a poor widow and her crippled son, Amahl, who give shelter to the Three Kings as they follow a mysterious star. Sung in English.

  • February 5: “Piano Reflections” with Mario Ajero, faculty piano recital Event Type:

    Dr. Mario Ajero, associate professor of piano, performs a program reflecting on favorite piano pieces from his past including works by Beethoven, Debussy, and Copland.
