Preliminary Round
Competitors will enter in one of six divisions:
-
strings and harp
-
piano and organ
-
woodwinds
-
brass
-
percussion
-
voice
Each division will have independent preliminary rounds, each advancing a maximum of two performers to the finals. The faculty of each division shall form the preliminary panel for judging. The preliminary panel will decide the length of each audition they wish to hear. All competitors must use their accompanist for both the preliminary and final round. The preliminary panel will designate a chairperson, who will report the two finalists of their division to the Competition Chair.
Final Round
The final round will be held on Friday, November 2, 2007, 2-5 p.m., in Cole Concert Hall. Students must be prepared to present the work in its entirety from memory with their accompanist.
Cuts may be inserted in the accompaniment. Works that utilize standard cuts in professional performance may be performed in this manner. Students should provide five (5) complete piano scores for the judging panel when possible. Photocopies will be accepted if scores are not easily accessible or cost prohibitive. Cuts should be clearly marked in the scores. The panel shall consist of five judges, three outside members and two inside the School of Music, one of whom will be the Orchestra Director. The judges’ deliberations shall remain confidential and their decisions final. The performance date will be scheduled in the spring semester with the SFA Chamber Orchestra on March 4, 2008.
Total time available on the concert is approximately 30 minutes. Selection of winners and programming will be held to this time constraint.
