Vocal Ensembles: Opera
The Opera Theatre program is dedicated to the principle of providing students as many opportunities as possible to sing leading roles. Operas produced in recent years include Street Scene, The Elixir of Love, Falstaff, The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus, La Périchole, The Marriage of Figaro, The Bartered Bride, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Cavalleria rusticana, Gianni Schicchi, and Susannah.
Interested students are also given the opportunity to learn set construction, costuming, and lighting along with singing in the productions. Performances are held in the modern 1,000-seat Turner Auditorium and in other venues on- and off-campus. The opera theatre produces a full-length major opera each spring, and the fall opera workshop offers opportunities for additional training.
