Vocal Ensembles: A Cappella Choir
2015 A Cappella Choir Tour: “Bella Italia”
Perform with the SFA A Cappella Choir, and be a part of our international tour of Venice, Florence and Rome!
The A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Dr. Tim King, is the premier choral ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University. The select 52-voice mixed chorus is comprised almost entirely of resident voice majors at SFA and performs a distinctive repertoire of a cappella and concerted works spanning 600 years.
The A Cappella Choir regularly collaborates with Choral Union, Women’s Choir, and Orchestra of the Pines in choral/orchestral masterworks as diverse as Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Verdi’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and the Southwest premier of Richard Danielpour’s An American Requiem.
Through guest appearances at state and national conventions including, Texas Music Educators Association, MENC: The National Association for Music Education, and the American Choral Directors Association, the A Cappella Choir is recognized as one of the finest choral ensembles in the United States.
Under Dr. King’s direction, the A Cappella Choir has regularly toured Europe appearing in such prestigious venues as the International Music Festival, Marostica, Italy and for Vienna’s 1,000th birthday celebration. Most noteworthy was the 2006 tour at the special invitation of the Salzburg Choral Society to join in their celebration of Mozart’s 250th birthday celebration. In May of 2015 the choir is looking forward to its triennium tour of Venice, Florence, and Rome.
