National Music Honor Society

Pi Kappa Lambda was organized in 1918 at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

The primary objective of Pi Kappa Lambda is the recognition and encouragement of the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship. The Society is convinced that, by recognizing and honoring persons who have enhanced their talents by serious, diligent, and intelligent study, others will be stimulated to do the same.

Pi Kappa Lambda has local chapters in more than 200 colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Pi Kappa Lambda is a music honor society dedicated to recognizing and encouraging the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship. Candidates must exhibit leadership, musicianship, and scholarship. Candidates must be in at least their fourth semester at SFA. Members are elected by faculty vote according to the following criteria:

Graduate Students
Must have an "A" average after completing 2/3 of their master's degree course work.

Seniors
99+hrs with a minimum GPA of 3.4.
ALL hours are calculated into GPA (including transfer hours).
Must rank in the top 20% of senior music majors.

Juniors
66-98 hrs with a minimum GPA of 3.4.
ALL hours are calculated into GPA (including transfer hours).
Must rank in the top 10% of junior music majors.

Criteria for Pi Kappa Lambda Sophomore Award:
Must be a sophomore in Spring sememster (33-65 hrs)
Must be in the fourth semester of study at SFA.
Highest GPA of the sophmore music majors.
