The Shirley Watterston Accompanying Scholarship Fund

Shirley Watterston retired her long and sparkling tenure at SFA in the Spring of 2006.

At a retirement gala evening celebrating her life and career, the announcement was made of the initial amount that was to begin the Shirley Watterston Accompanying Scholarship Fund benefiting outstanding keyboard students with an emphasis in the accompanying art.

More than $34,000 has been raised – a testament to Shirley’s storied career and dedication to the individuals she has taught, coached and accompanied.

The chair of the fundraising effort and gala organizing committee, Matt Hardman, said that gifts came from every corner of the country and include a broad cross section of former students, colleagues and friends of Watterston. He said, “I have no doubt that the generosity of so many will go far to significantly enhance the effort of the School of Music to attract and retain exemplary keyboard students.”
