Bachelor of Music in Sound Recording Technology
The Bachelor of Music in Sound Recording Technology (SRT) provides students with the fundamental skills necessary for a career as a recording engineer. Portions of the curriculum are devoted to classes focusing on audio technology, microphone techniques, songwriting, music production, live sound, the music industry, and sound for film and theatre. The final semester of the SRT program is reserved for an off-campus internship where students will receive specialized workplace training with approved professionals in the music, film, broadcast, theatre, or live sound industries.
In addition to taking traditional music courses, SRT majors perform in an ensemble specializing in Rock, Country, and R&B as well as other styles of popular music. Four semesters of individual lessons on wind instruments, brass, percussion, strings, piano, or voice are necessary to satisfy the degree requirements. Other options to fulfill the applied music component include studying acoustic and electric guitar, drum set and percussion, electric bass, or keyboard and synthesizer. General studies supplement the curriculum and include courses in musical acoustics, electronics, and mathematics.
