Bachelor of Music with All-Level Teacher Certification Options
The Bachelor of Music with All-Level Teacher Certification Options is uniquely designed to allow a student to develop specialized technical skills and knowledge appropriate for teaching musical concepts. The degree program culminates in a final semester of student teaching experience in the public schools system. Student teaching allows students to put theory into practice, as they attempt to use techniques learned in the teacher certification course.
The student takes at least sixty-five percent of the required credits for this degree program in the major area and in other supportive courses in music. The School of Music complies with all Texas Education Agency policies and guidelines for Teacher Certification. All degree programs leading to teacher certification include classes that address classroom techniques idiosyncratic to music, current trends in education, and techniques specific to the area of study. Ideally, students in these classes obtain a balance of technical training and experiential learning in the course sequence offered. Professors strive to create as many realistic situations as are possible in the university classroom. Students in these programs are challenged to be creative in assignments, utilizing computer applications where possible.
